Football Begins!!

Well the day and come and gone. We started football camp on Wednesday morning at 12 AM. It has become a tradition to start at 12 AM on Wednesday so the kids can say that they are the first team to practice in the state of WA. There may be another staff that is crazy enough to practice from 12 AM to 2:30 AM on the first day, but we tell the kids that we are the only team. After our night practice the kids slept in the school's gym for a few hours and went at it again at 8:30 AM till 12 PM. It is a bit of a grind, but the kids and staff fought through it. After that crazy first day, things begin to settle down a little bit. We are still doing double days practices that start at 9:30 AM and go till 12:30 PM. The kids and staff get a little break and return to practice at 4:30 PM and go till 6:30 PM. It is a little like groundhog day in the fact that this goes on for a little over 2 weeks. A coach could possibly go a little crazy. All-in-all I really enjoy this part of the year and it is such a great way to get involved with the kids at the school. The relationships that I develop on the football field with my students is amazing. I often step back and think about how lucky I am to have such a great job!

  1. Well with football starting, I guess it does mean that our summer days are coming to an end. It was great reading your blog and your summer adventures. Best of luck in finishing your master's program and the new teaching year!
